This Pinot Noir is bright and soft, with red fruit tones on the nose that lead to some richer strawberry and plum on the palate, which builds dramatically in the mouth. The wine has an elegant structure and balance, supported by good fruit and oak tannins. Magical, aromatic and silky smooth - this is world-class Pinot for early drinking. Perfect with grilled spring lamb cutlets or why not try a glass of slightly chilled Stratum in the sunshine - fingers crossed that one is an option!
The Stratum 2019 Pinot Noir was harvested from grapes grown in the heart of Waipara Valley from six of our premium vineyard sites. A hot dry 2019 mid summer period allowed the grapes to ripen with no disease issues. Vineyard management included trimming and leaf plucking giving the grape bunches good exposure to the sun, contributing to the ripeness and lack of disease. Harvest started in late March with warm dry conditions, allowing for the grapes to undergo an extended fermentation on skins up to 21 days. Five months of French oak maturation followed prior to bottling.
